A family-owned winery is situated near the striking Te Mata Peak within the esteemed wine-growing region of Hawke’s Bay, New Zealand. Craggy Range is renowned for producing iconic wines from diverse regions in New Zealand. Terry Peabody, the owner, and his family have embraced a single-vineyard approach to winemaking, commencing with cultivating vineyards on undeveloped land, thereby emphasizing a commitment to quality from the outset.
New Zealand's varied soil composition provided an ideal environment for vine cultivation. From the warm, stony soils of the Gimblett Gravels in Hawke’s Bay to the volcanic clay soils of Te Muna Road in Martinborough, these exceptional vineyards yield wines distinguished by remarkable aromatics, purity, and complexity.
The wines crafted for the Prestige and Family Collections are unadulterated representations of the distinctive terroir in which they were cultivated. Established in 1998, Craggy Range was conceived as a lasting legacy by the Peabody Family for future generations. The winery is dedicated to achieving eminence as one of the premier producers globally.
The primary winery is located in the heart of the Gimblett Gravels Winegrowing district in Hawke’s Bay. It features individual bespoke cellars tailored to each wine style's requirements.
Giants Winery, the headquarters of Craggy Range, is exclusively designated for the production of ‘Sophia’, a distinctive wine matured in French oak barrels, thereby yielding a product distinguished by heightened character and complexity.
An innovative approach was adopted through the pursuit of a multi-regional vine cultivation strategy, thereby obviating the need for compromise. Following the discernment of New Zealand's potential, the Peabody family elected to cultivate vineyards in the Gimblett Gravels Winegrowing district in Hawke’s Bay and Te Muna Road in Martinborough, resulting in the production of wines that unmistakably reflect their origins.
